Mark Baltz

  • Referees live lives nearly as exciting as athletes, and thrive just as much on the adrenaline of the games. Baltz is no exception. He’s a veteran of countless college and professional football games, and no doubt could keep you enthralled for hours on a bar stool.

You’ll have to settle for an hour in the studio. He came down one afternoon to tell a few stories – such as the time he put Bo Schembechler in his place – and lend insight into the career of a professional referee. It’s not as easy as you probably think. They do a better job than you probably think, too.

Baltz retired from the NFL in 2013, but returned in 2015 to help out with high school games. Further proof it was in his blood.
